Welcome to the recreational page. Registration for Spring 2024 is CLOSED

Some notes about Rec Soccer. Practices will begin the week of March 11th for the older groups and March 18th for our younger groups.

Practices are twice a week - either Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursday and the time frame is an hour (either 5:30-6:30 or 6:30-7:30).

We have access to Turkey Hill (all U8 teams practice here, other age groups as well), Milton Somers and Matula Elementary (all U6 will be at one of these locations, other age groups as well), Piccowaxen Middle School and the Courthouse field (near the government building in La Plata). We hope to use Wills Park with our new partnership with the Town of La Plata.

Home games are at Matula for U6 and Laurel Springs is our home field for all other age groups. We also play away games at Bensville, Pisgah, Pomonkey and Bryantown.

If you need a particular practice night or time, please note that in your registration.

Registration fees are $100.00 ($15.00 late fee after cutoff)

Keeping The Game A Positive Experience For All

Keeping The Game A Positive Experience For All

It is the policy of LPYSA to not have our rec teams demoralize their opponents by running up the game score. Our soccer club is FOR THE KIDS and winning by more than 5 goals hardly keeps the losing team interested in playing this fine sport. We should be teaching our players to win with honor and to do so without being hurtful to the losing teams or its players. They should respect their opponent and the game. Coaches are asked to control the outcome of each match through a variety of possible methods, for example:

  • Swap out offense for defense
  • Allow only 2 players beyond center field
  • Require 3 consecutive passes before a shot on goal
  • Shots on goal only allowed with non-dominant foot

LPYSA asks that all coaches teach good sportsmanship to their players - it is one aspect of the game they will carry with them through all aspects of life.
